This Is Me...

Hi, I’m Amado Rivas! I grew up in the beautiful San Joaquin Valley of California and made the big move to the northwest side of San Antonio, Texas in September 2021, after serving 22 years in the U.S. Navy. My journey into photography is a little different from most—I wasn’t always the person with a camera in hand. Instead, I’ve always had a fascination with light, which led me to pick up a camera for the first time in 2009. I began taking portraits professionally in 2012, and since then, I’ve fallen in love with capturing real moments in beautiful light.

I specialize in portrait photography, focusing mainly on high school seniors and grads. But I also love creating fine art-inspired contemporary portraits, as well as family and beauty photos.

When I’m not behind the camera, you can usually find me daydreaming about flying airplanes (or watching airplane videos on YouTube!).

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When should I book my senior photos?: NOW!

The earlier the better. Typically the best time to book your senior photos is the summer before your senior year! We can shoot your session when the weather cools off in the fall because we know these Texas summers can be brutal. If you're about to finish your junior year, but the school year isn't out yet, it's ok...we can book you now and shoot your session later- it's not too early.

If time got away from you and you're already in your senior year, or almost done, it's still not too late. We can still do this. Please be realistic though; don't book your session and expect it all to be done (session and photos) before graduation in two weeks.
Where are you located?: I'm located on the far west side of San Antonio. I serve the Alamo Ranch, Kallison Ranch, Helotes, Castroville, and the surrounding areas.
How many outfits can I take to my session?: As many as you want, honestly. Typically we'll shoot 3 outfits during a normal senior session. If you add on studio time we'll get a coupe more outfits in to give you more variety. I do have a collapsible changing room that I can bring along to your session; that way you don't have to change in your car or in a restroom when we're out on location.
What sort of accessories should I bring?: I want your senior photos to reflect who you are. So if you are involved in a club, sport, or other activity in school and want to incorporate those things in to your session I'm all for it! Maybe you're in to cars, or planes...we can include those in your photos as well! You're only limited by your imagination.
Where do you shoot?: Outdoors and on-location mostly. We'll go over what you're looking for from your photos before your session and come up with a location to shoot.

Can I bring a friend along for my session?: Yes! As long as your friend promises not to be a distraction they're more than welcome to come along for moral support or to be your own personal wardrobe assistant! And if you're both up for it, I'll even get some photos of both of you together. Just remember, this is YOUR session not your friends.
How do I book a photo shoot?: Get started by filling out a contact form and I will reach out to you, usually within 24 hours- except on weekends and holidays when it might take me a couple of days. Be sure that your information is correct, and check your spam folder if you haven't heard from me within 3 days.
Do you shoot other types of sessions besides Senior Photos?: Yes I do! I shoot contemporary portraits in studio for women, men, children, and family portraits. I also shoot headshots for professionals, models, actors, business owners, etc. You can see more info on those sessions here.
